Lena Bils' “microportraits” show analog black-and-white photographs of aristocratic portraits from the tabloid press, enlarged under a light microscope. By photographing the original portraits from a great distance and then greatly enlarging the negative, the graininess of the film material comes to the fore and reduces the people depicted to the point of unrecognizability. The work hangs in the historic frames of the Fasanerie Fulda, where miniature portraits of aristocrats are usually exhibited.
Die „Mikroportraits“ von Lena Bils zeigen unter einem Lichtmikroskop vergrößerte analoge Schwarzweiß-Fotografien von Adelsportraits aus der Boulevardpresse. Durch das Fotografieren der Originalportraits aus großer Distanz und die anschließende starke Vergrößerung des Negativs tritt die Körnung des Filmmaterials in den Vordergrund und reduziert die abgebildeten Personen bis zur Grenze der Unkenntlichkeit. Die Arbeit hängt in historischen Rahmen der Fasanerie Fulda, in denen üblicherweise Miniaturportraits von Adeligen ausgestellt sind.
